Many people have narrow interpretations of the role of school board president, believing that the responsibilities entail only chairing the meetings of the board. However, the role of the board president is significant and complex and very important to the success of any school board. Upon accepting the position, board presidents may find themselves taking on multiple roles. To best prepare for the multiple responsibilities of the board president and ease their transition into the role, it is critical to understand the many facets of the job. This handbook will assist board presidents in taking on the significant responsibility and making it a rewarding experience – not only for them and for the colleagues on the board, but for the children they were elected to serve.
