The school board alone has direct responsibility for evaluation of the superintendent. Superintendent evaluation is an important leadership tool for the board to use in fulfilling its responsibility for setting direction, ensuring accountability and providing community leadership. Effective evaluation depends on the regular use of a mutually agreed-upon system through which the board and superintendent conduct ongoing formal communications about the direction of the district. The board holds the school district’s top administrator accountable for achieving goals that the school board and superintendent, working together as the governance team, believe will move the district toward attainment of the district vision.
