Jim Ellis is the subject of the film Pride, which tells his story of a swim coach
and youth mentor who built a successful swimming program in one of Philly's most
impoverished and predominantly African-American neighborhoods in the 1970s. Ellis
taught his P.D.R. swimmers more than just how to compete in the water and to form
a dedicated and successful team. He taught them important and life-changing lessons
that would prepare them for a better future. Ellis connects the benefits of physical
activity and student achievement, how teams build communities, how parents and family
connect with the coach and create accountability for the child. His discussion will
